Google Phone for Free in Exchange for Targeted Ads?

by tyler on January 5, 2010

I have been reading some rumors ahead of today’s google announcement about the possibility of Google offering up their new phone for free to users who opt-in to targeted advertising on the device. Seems plausible to me. I wonder if just the phone would be free or if the service would also be gratis?

Again, this is just a rumor that has cropped up. Would you go for it if the phone and service were free? I think I would...

UPDATE:  This ended up being just a rumor after all.

Hard to believe that both the phone and service would be free, unless it’s a very limited level of service.

I agree, but if anyone could do it, it would be Google. Also I think the ads would be so intrusive it wouldn’t be worth it.

Interesting to see that Google has thought about this in the past… Google CEO sees free cell phone service
